Ormai è da anni che si sa. I tumori si nutrono di zuccheri e grassi animali, limitarne il consumo ci aiuta a prevenire il cancro. La dieta infatti incide su circa il 40% dei tumori e l'alimentazione in relazione al cancro è un argomento sempre più sentito, infatti oggi più del 50% dei pazienti, dopo la diagnosi di tumore, chiede cosa può fare per favorire la guarigione, specie in relazione alla dieta.
Il parere dell'esperta
Alessandra Longhi, oncologa dell'Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli di Bologna in occasione di un incontro su "Alimentazione e tumori", presso la Casa della cultura di Calderara di Reno, organizzato da "Incontri di scienza e di vita a Calderara". Centrale per la prevenzione del cancro, nonché anche per ridurre il rischio di recidive dopo un primo tumore, è mantenere un peso corporeo sano e fare esercizio. Per quanto riguarda la dieta è importante prediligere i cereali integrali, le verdure, la frutta, evitando i cibi ipercalorici, le bevande zuccherate, i cibi ricchi di sale, gli insaccati, le bevande alcoliche che incidono ad esempio sul tumore al seno.
Zuccheri e grassi
La dieta, inoltre, deve essere ricca di fibre e povera di grassi e proteine di origine animale, povera di zuccheri e cibi che aumentano la glicemia. Gli zuccheri, spiega Longhi, favoriscono la presenza di un fattore di crescita - il fattore insulino-simile, che stimola la crescita tumorale; inoltre i tumori consumano tantissimo zucchero, quindi una dieta ricca di zuccheri ne aiuta la crescita. Uno studio ha dimostrato che più la glicemia è bassa, minore è il rischio di cancro al seno. Anche il rischio di recidive è più alto per chi beve bibite zuccherate. Il diabete, quindi, è a sua volta un fattore di rischio per il cancro. Il fattore di crescita insulino-simile può essere ridotto mangiando meno, mentre la sua concentrazione aumenta nelle diete ricche di proteine di origine animale.
Latte sconsigliato
Il latte è sconsigliato nei pazienti oncologici. Non a caso il consumo di latte aumenta il rischio di tumore della prostata e dell'endometrio. Anche carni rosse ricche di grassi saturi sono collegate al rischio di cancro di prostata e seno, in quanto esercitano una azione pro-cancerogena. Infatti, sottolinea l'oncologa, vegani e vegetariani sono meno a rischio tumori. Il 40% dei tumori, inoltre, è in relazione all'obesità.
