Prendete il viso di una donna bello, espressivo, intenso con il sorriso che accompagna la vivacità dello sguardo, eppure questa donna vi confesserà che con il suo viso ha un problema. Un grande problema: borse e occhiaie. È il cruccio di molte donne, che non nascondono di non piacersi guardandosi allo specchio tanto da vergognarsi del loro contorno occhi.
I danni del fumo
Prendete una donna fumatrice incallita, che tra una sigaretta e l’altra si lamenterà delle sue orribili borse, di quelle sue terribili occhiaie, così invalidanti per lei. Provate allora a spiegarle che la colpa è del fumo.
Insieme all’alcool, ad una cattiva alimentazione e ad una vita sedentaria, il fumo è, infatti, tra le maggiori cause della perdita di vita in salute, mentre i benefici per chi smette di fumare, spiega EpiCentro, portale di epidemiologia dell’ Istituto Superiore di Sanità, non riguardano soltanto il miglioramento del respiro, la scomparsa graduale di tosse, fariginti, laringiti, bronchiti croniche, enfisema polmonare, l’aumento della resistenza fisica, il miglioramento dei riflessi, il riacquisto di una maggiore calma e concentrazione, una migliore qualità del sonno, una riduzione significativa dei rischi di patologie circolatorie, cardiache e polmonari o del pericolo di ictus o di ostruzione delle arterie. Smettere di fumare comporta, infatti, altri benefici con il viso che apparirà “generalmente più disteso e pulito”, gli occhi “più limpidi”, l’alito più fresco, il colorito più roseo, i capelli che non odoreranno più di fumo, occhiaie e borse oculari che si ridurranno.
Cause di borse oculari e occhiaie
Il tabagismo, tuttavia, non è la sola causa degli inestetismi del contorno occhi. “Le cosiddette borse” spiega, ad esempio, il professor Leonardo Celleno, dermatologo e presidente di AIDECO, l’associazione italiana di dermatologia e cosmetologia, “sono determinate da un aumento di volume più o meno accentuato del pannicolo grasso perioculare inferiore ed insorgono per predisposizione costituzionale, per danni traumatici o anche per il progredire dell’invecchiamento cutaneo. I gonfiori dell’area perioculare sono un’alterazione indotta da un ridotto drenaggio linfatico e da un conseguente accumulo di liquidi negli spazi intercellulari. Stanchezza, disequilibrio sonno/veglia, insonnia, alcool, eccessi alimentari, allergie, irritazioni, tabagismo possono essere tra le cause scatenanti. Le occhiaie, cui molti sono maggiormente soggetti, vengono causate da problemi costituzionali legati al microcircolo periferico e ad accumuli di pigmento. Questo fastidioso inestetismo può aumentare con il progredire dell’età, con la stanchezza, con lo stress”.
Chiamata in causa è anche l’esposizione eccessiva e prolungata al sole e alle lampade abbronzanti, mentre una causa patologica legata alle borse oculari è l’orbitopatia tiroidea, un processo infiammatorio autoimmune che provoca il rigonfiamento e la fibrosi dei tessuti molli dell’orbita e che colpisce in particolare le donne.
Trattamenti
Un capitolo riguarda i trattamenti - quali i migliori? quali i più efficaci? - che rappresentano, anche questi, il cruccio di molte donne. L’invito è comunque alla prudenza: “È necessario prima di tutto verificare le cause che producono l’insorgenza di questi inestetismi. Solo dopo sarà possibile cercare di stabilire il miglior trattamento che può andare dalla terapia medica alla risoluzione chirurgica dell’inestetismo da attuare solo quando si saranno escluse o curate tutte le possibili cause che possono determinarle” spiega il professor Celleno, che apre uno spiraglio sulla possibilità di una rimozione definitiva delle borse oculari grazie alla chirurgia ma solo se “dipendono da un eccessivo rilassamento cutaneo, magari dipendente dal progredire dell’età o dalla stanchezza” o da “specifiche patologie che le hanno determinate e relative terapie”.
I benefici del freddo
Un aiuto, anche se con effetti limitati nel tempo, arriva dal freddo grazie alla vasocostrizione, questo perché, spiega il professor Celleno, la vasodilatazione “peggiora la situazione delle borse oculari”. Una soluzione casalinga sono, ad esempio, gli impacchi con asciugamano pulito immerso in acqua fredda e premuto delicatamente per qualche minuto sulla zona interessata. Considerati i benefici del freddo, può, ad esempio, essere una buona idea quella di conservare i cosmetici anti-occhiaie in frigo? “Così come l’applicazione di impacchi freddi può essere un primo e semplice rimedio per contrastare l’edema tissutale” spiega ancora il professor Celleno “anche un cosmetico raffreddato può svolgere una lieve attività in tal senso”.
Strategie durante il riposo
C’è quindi chi suggerisce di dormire con la testa leggermente sollevata grazie a un secondo cuscino o rialzando in corrispondenza e di poco il materasso questo per impedire l’accumulo dei liquidi sotto gli occhi o ancora di dormire con la schiena appoggiata al letto per evitarne l’accumulo sulle palpebre.
Cetriolo amico della pelle
Un aiuto verrà anche da un’alimentazione ricca di liquidi e fibre - panacea saranno, ad esempio, frutta e verdura -, povera di sale, causa di ritenzione idrica così come l’alcool, quindi dal cetriolo, ortaggio principe per la cura della pelle grazie al suo ricco contenuto di zolfo. “Non a caso già nell’antica Roma” spiega la Fondazione Campagna Amica di Coldiretti “le donne lo usavano come maschera di bellezza e, ancora oggi, il cetriolo è uno tra i vegetali più utilizzati in cosmesi; la polpa e il succo, infatti, schiariscono la cute, decongestionano e idratano. Tagliato a fette e applicato sul volto, schiarisce la pelle e attenua le imperfezioni regalando freschezza al volto”. Senza comunque dimenticare, raccomandano i dermatologi, che il cetriolo fresco è un coadiuvante, da qui l’importanza di un’alimentazione sana e di una beauty routine quotidiana.
Beauty routine
Qual è allora la beauty routine quotidiana da seguire? “La zona perioculare” spiega il professor Celleno “è un’area cutanea particolare. Estremamente sottile, ha un’epidermide di circa 0,004 mm di spessore, un derma di circa 0,5 mm e l’ipoderma è circa 2 volte più sottile della pelle del viso in generale. Continuamente sollecitata da contrazioni muscolari volontarie ed involontarie, può svolgere circa 10.000 movimenti di espressione in solo 8 ore. Caratterizzata da un film idrolipidico protettivo povero e sottile, è soggetta a disidratazione, danneggiata da esposizione solare, agenti atmosferici, trucco e strucco, a volte da problemi circolatori e linfatici. Ciò premesso, logicamente va trattata con maggiore attenzione. Essenziale è la scelta del detergente soprattutto in caso di concomitante azione struccante; per questo è consigliato l’uso di prodotti specifici, possibilmente latti o oli poveri o senza tensioattivi troppo aggressivi (detersione per affinità)”.
Fondamentale, infine, è l’idratazione: “Necessario” continua “è il reintegro di una corretta idratazione e trattamento preventivo per ritardare l’insorgenza delle temute rugosità di zona. Non ultimo il trattamento per la riduzione delle già esistenti zampe di gallina: sieri, fluidi ed emulsioni specifici sfruttano le diverse potenzialità dei principi funzionali contenuti per combattere il più efficacemente possibile questo fastidioso inestetismo. Dopo la detersione è quindi opportuno utilizzare prodotti specifici per il contorno occhi, spesso formulati in emulsioni leggere o gel che possono ripristinare il film idrolipidico e che contengono vitamine e antiossidanti capillaro-protettori”.
